Vicki James, PMP, knows what it takes to be successful in projects. According to her, it’s just as much to do with knowing the status of the work being done as it is knowing what your stakeholders are thinking, expecting, and saying. She suggests 7 steps for developing a great stakeholder analysis system, including this suggestion of introduction and expectation:
Once your initial list is completed, send out an email introducing yourself and the project with an indication that they have been identified as a stakeholder and give them an opportunity to state their interest and communication preferences related to the project as well as provide information on additional stakeholders who may have been missed.
James explains how stakeholders are the center of any project: knowing what data to show them, when, and how, can mean the difference between big success and big failure.
